Bad news for cricket as Irfan nixed finally

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to give another chance to fast bowler Muhammed Irfan over spot-fixing scandal in Pakistan Super League (PSL) that recently came to conclusion in Lahore final.

It should be mentioned here that earlier Irfan’s teammates in Islamabad United—Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif—were barred from playing cricket after they were found involved in the scandal.

Irfan was still under suspicion a day after the duo was sent home from Dubai, when PSL Chairman Najam Sethi gave him go-ahead to play the league in Dubai. In the meantime, the PCB’s anti-corruption unit (ACU) continued its investigations.

The game critics said if the bowler was under suspicion, why he was treated differently from Sharjeel and Latif.

The video interviews of the fast bowler have also been made part of the record of investigations. The ACU is still probing the phone calls as Irfan has been charged with meeting the bookies.

PSL final likely to be held in Lahore

West Indies to host Pakistan for March-May 2017 tour ( Pakistan )

West Indies and Pakistan on Wednesday revealed plans to play three Tests, three ODIs and two T20I matches in the Caribbean between March and May.

The series is scheduled to start in Trinidad on March 31 and end in Dominica on May 14.

The one-dayers will be particularly key as September represents the cut-off for direct qualification for the 2019 World Cup where only the top eight nations are guaranteed a place in the 10-team tournament.

A 10-nation qualifying event in 2018 will decide the remaining two spots.

Currently, Pakistan are eighth in the rankings with the West Indies one place behind.

Both teams met in a three-Test series in Dubai last October with Pakistan winning 2-1.
